Have you been having fun playing along with our Embellishments Challenge? Did you know you can also use WOW! Sparkles glitter to create shiny glossy embellishments for your projects - I show you how in this video which you can check out over on the WOW! YouTube channel.
These are so sparkly in real life! Here's how I created the cards. For my first, I used an A2 panel of WOW! White cardstock, and overlaid the Altenew Milky Way stencil. I did some easy quick ink blending with Catherine Pooler Stone Blue ink - I chose this ink as it co-ordinates really well with the Twinkerbelle WOW! Sparkles. I flipped the stencil to the other side of the panel and inked again. I wasn't super careful to get a perfect blend as I wanted a little fade here and there.
I then created my own glitter paste with the Twinkerbelle Sparkles by mixing it in with some transparent embossing paste using a palette knife. I LOVE doing this - WOW! carries such a diverse range of glitters, some with amazing chunks of holographic material, and this really works with any of them. I overlaid the stencil again (using the smaller stars, and lining them up over the top of the bigger stars) and smoothed over the DIY paste. I then flipped it and did the same at the top, then set it aside to dry.
To create my stars, I first created my own Sparkles glitter cardstock. You can do this by taking a scrap (or sheet) of cardstock, and adhering strong double sided adhesive to the entire piece. I then peel off the release paper and (using a sheet of paper to catch the excess) sprinkle Sparkles all over it. I used Ice Pop Sparkles which is from the Melon Ice WOW! Trio. You can rub it in with your finger or use a bone folder. You can then tip the excess back in the pot and use a swiffer to clean up!
I die cut the DIY Sparkles cardstock with the My Favorite Things Inside & Out Stitched Stars dienamics - but you could use any star dies (or any shape!) you have in your stash. I die cut them again three times from white cardstock and adhered them all together.
The secret is then to coat them with a layer of Crystal Glaze or Glossy Accents. When it dries it magnifies the Sparkles and is just stunning.
To finish, I stamped a sentiment from the Altenew Reason to Smile stamp set in Versafine Onyx Black ink directly onto the card panel and adhered my dried stars.
For my next card, I used the same DIY Sparkles paste and DIY Sparkles cardstock. I took a panel of pale blue card stock, and smoothed over the remainder of my DIY paste using the Altenew Illusion Spiral stencil.
While it was drying, I created a sentiment embellishment using the My Favorite Things Hugs dienamics. I did this in the exact same way as I created the stars!
I had intended to adhered the Hugs directly to the centre of my paste panel, however I thought it needed something else. I decided to heat embossed some blue colored vellum in WOW! Metallic Platinum using a flower from the Altenew Hennah Elements stamp set, and then fussy cut it out. I adhered it to the back of the Hugs embellishment before adhering it (this hides the glue!)
I just love how these turned out! Creating embellishments with WOW! Sparkles is my new favorite thing - why don't you go try it with your favorite dies?
