Life time of memories ~ Donna O'leary

Hello all.   This month on the WOW Blog we are creating art with the focus on memories.  Today I have created a layout using a photo that I took of my daughter Samantha and partner Jake.  I had such a fun time capturing these memories for them.  First baby, grandchild.

Right Now~This Moment~Family

I love the distressed look as most of you that know my work would agree.   Today I have used Primary Ebony Regular along the edges randomly and then heat set it with the heat-gun.

To add interest to the background I used some random stamps with versa-mark and added a sprinkling of Primary Ebony Regular and Chocolate Caramel Pearl Regular embossing powders.

close-up of background.

I added my photo which I topped off with a cut out of the same photo to make it stand out and give it interest.  Added pearls and a vine with some flowers.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I would love to hear what you think of this layout and hope it has inspired you to get your crafty products out and play.

Don't forget to stop over at the WOW EMBOSSING STORE and have a look at all the new and wonderful products we have on offer.   Happy Scrappin everyone  xox  Donna

Flocks and Foil

Hi Everyone

Sue here,
page 1
This month over at WOW HQ is 'Memories'  I haven't used a photograph this time, but some of the fab WOW stamps and a new template I purchased. from Paperbabe Stamps.  This is a template from which you can make a face and different hair styles  and stamps for the lips, eyes and facial expressions.  My inspiration was thinking of my daughter.  (soppy aren't I!).
I firstly sprayed a background with Dylusion spray inks and once dry took some plastic stencils (Tim Holtz) and sponged Versamark  through these.  I then sprinkled Bright White Embossing Power over the Versamark  and heat set.
I have used two of my favorite WOW products flock and foils.  These products are less well known than the powders but equally fun to experiment with.  One of the techniques is to use self adhesive covering (one sided sticky back plastic - clear), and a metal stencil.  I have tried using double sided sheets but they are too sticky for the flock and foil and are a mess trying to get the metal stencils off (trust me I'm speaking from experience). You can pick up the  self adhesive covering from good craft shops and larger stores like the Range.
I started with the covering and a stencil. (Stencil was Dreamweaver - Leaves) I placed the stencil on the sticky side of the covering.  I then got the foil and rubbed this (colour side up) onto the stencil in different places and lifted it off.  The foil sticks to the covering.  I used different colours over the covering. (Turquoise, Dark Blue, Gold and  Copper).  I then got the flock(brown) and did the same technique sprinkling over the covering  in the places that had not got any foil on it, still keeping the stencil in place. I rubbed the flock into the stencil.   The flock sticks to the covering.  Brush the excess off and pour back into the tub to re use.
I then lifted the stencil off and sprinkled ebony embossing powder over the sticky tape.  I then rubbed it in and brushed it off.  The embossing powder will stick to the covering where the stencil has been.  Take a heat gun and GENTLY heat the embossing powder making sure you move the gun as soon as the powder melts.  You will then have a beautiful patterned piece to cut up as you wish or use it as background.
I then used my Paperbabe template, drew around the templates and cut out the different shapes for her hair with the finished pieces of the foil and flock.  I then put the pieces together to form the tresses in the different colours.  I used different backing papers and stamped over the top the following stamps POP, SEXI-HEXI. with Memento ink and heat set with clear embossing powder.   I coloured her face and neck in with water colour pencils.  I then added words from the stamp sets Its all Relative and Big Words by stamping out in Archival black ink and covering with clear embossing powder and heat set.
Hope I have inspired you to try foils and flock........
Take care

Happy memories - embossed background

I must admit I was having a bit of a problem coming up with a memory keeping project for this months post. I have been making almost only cards lately and had a bit of a problem filling a whole layout. I do make some layouts and lately I've been partial to letter sized layouts because the format remind me of cards and makes it easier for me to plan the page. This time I made a A4 sized layout because it's easier for me to find the page protectors in regular stores here. I used some good cardstock that doesn't warp much when you heat it or add water since i knew I would emboss it.

Here's what I did. I picked the pretty Chrysanthemum background stamp and embossed it in Silver Pearl embossing powder three times in a row across the background. I must admit I was more than a little inspired by Isha Guptas cards for her guest post earlier this week. I used distress inks in Twisted Citron and Mermaid Lagoon and applied with an ink blending tool randomly over the embossed area. Then I sprayed a good amount of water over it and let it run and blend before drying it with my heat tool.

The colors turned out very soft and pretty matching the photo of my daughter taking me on an adventure on the yard of her daycare the last day before she started school. The layout didn't need a lot of decorations because the embossing and ink is so pretty it's a decoration in itself.

I hope you got inspired to emboss the backgrounds of your layouts, just pick a good cardstock that takes  heat and water well, or maybe a sheet of watercolor paper and you'll be making pretty projects in no time at all! Good luck!

Guest Design Team Post - Isha Gupta

Hi Everyone! Today I am very pleased to introduce our Guest Designer for the month: Isha Gupta!

Hi I am Isha Gupta. I am a wife and mom to two awesome girls.  I've been living in Switzerland for 18 years.  I've always been creative but got hooked onto stamping about four and half years ago. I am primarily a cardmaker but occasionally love to create other paper projects, scrapbook pages, mixed media canvas etc.

I've been lucky to have published in various magazines in the US and UK I don't have a particular style as I like to explore new techniques. I tend to find myself drawn towards fun, cute, clean and simple with a touch of out-of-the-box thinking. I love COLORS and coloring using various mediums.

You can see my work on my blog at NewIdeas.

Today, I am so excited and honored to be a guest over at WOW! Embossing Powder. I love the various embossing powders they have and my recent craze of foiling started by using the Fab foil. Recently I used the stamps from WOW! and I just love the designs and quality of it. Thank you Tania for having me here :)

Now I really had a blast creating the cards:

I decided to create a CAS card first, so I stamped the Lace stamp using White Pearl embossing powder. Love the elegant look of it. To create my own glitter paper for the sentiment I just covered a scrap piece of cardstock with VersaMark ink and then embossed it using Calypso glitter powder. Beautiful color :)

Card 2: I stamped the Tropical stamp using VersaMark ink. Embossed it using Bonding Powder and then used Gold Fab Foil and passed it through a Laminator. I then sponged some inks and then spritz some Shimmer Spritz Sparkle.

Card 3:
I just love this Flights of Fancy stamp. So for this card I went a little towards Autumn. I embossed the leaves using Rainbow Black Glitter embossing powder and then colored in using my Kaleidacolor inks. For my sentiment, I foiled a scrap piece of cardstock using Turquoise Fab Foil and die-cut the word.

Card 4:
For this card I went all soft and pink. Well pink is my favorite color :) and a touch of yellow gives it that extra something.

I embossed the Tropical background stamp using the bright white embossing powder and sponged some ink to create the Ombre look. I stamped the leaves and colored in using some inks. For the sentiment I created my own glitter paper using the Metallic Gold Sparkle embossing powder.

Isha, thank you so much for joining us on the blog and I absolutely love the projects you created using our products! I am sure our readers will love the projects that you have created too :D

Leave us a comment below and you might win a set of our latest 5 embossing glitters!

Beauty Layout

Welcome Wow fans, Jenifer here with you today to share a layout I created using some of the new stamps, embossing colors and moulds.

I just knew when I saw the new Long Island Teal embossing powder I had to use it.  It coordinated with this picture that I took of a robins nest that we had in our tree a few years ago and it just went from there.

I stamped with the Chrysanthemum stamp directly onto the wood grain patterned paper to give it just a pop of color.  I sprayed a little gold, teal and white mists onto the paper and let them blend and drip down the page.  I layered some string and doilies together to balance out my picture and called it good.

I have been asking for a feather mould for a long time now and I can tell you it was definitely worth the wait.  Just look how beautiful they are and with all of the detail I know that I will be using them on tons of things.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my layout today, make sure you stop by often to see some of my teammates beautiful work.

Keepsake Box By Trish Latimer

Tania challenged the DT this month... either a scrapbook layout or a memory keeping project! Now, I have never created a layout in my life.... so memory keeping it was!
I created this box, perfect for keeping all those little sentimental treasures safe and sound!

I used White Ultra High Embossing Powder in the Shabby Rose mould to create the three embellishments on top of my box...

I also used Primay Chartreuse on a wooden embellishment underneath my roses. A nice trick to getting a shabby chic finish is to colour your embellishemt white using paint, then add your powder sparingly on top. Once melted, the powder gives a distressed look, with the white underneath showing through in places.

My box is actually an Altoid tin! I covered it with paper, then coloured using inks and paints. I added crackle glaze...

and glued wooden beads to the base as 'feet'

I hope you like it!
Have a fab weekend everyone!
Trish xx
