Guest Design Team Post: Riikka Kovasin (GIVEAWAY CLOSED!)

Hi there!

It’s Riikka from Paperiliitin blog guesting! I’m so honored and thrilled to have an opportunity to show something I’ve made here in WOW blog!

For this post I created two crafts – a set of cards and a layout. I used the same background steps in both of them and prepared a step by step tutorial for the background and finishing the cards. So let’s get started with that!

What you need is the “Big Words” stamp set from Wow, naturally some embossing powders, the new Wow embossing ink and also “Hearts” silicone mold and Melt-It! powder. You also need some patterned paper and white cardstock and also a stencil and watercolors.

Step 1) Stamp the words to your background using the embossing ink. Try to avoid stamping the words on top of each other, but vary the orientation – stamp some vertically, some horizontally.

Step 2) Sprinkle the pattern with white embossing powder and heat to melt the powder.

Step 3) Add some watercolor touches on top. The embossed areas will resist the color. Just add paint freely and don’t forget to include some splashes, too.

Step 4) After drying the paint, add embossing ink through a stencil to your piece. Concentrate to one focal point. Emboss the design using a colored powder of your choice.

Step 5) Make the greeting to the card. Stamp a word or a phrase to a piece of white cardstock and emboss with the same color you used in previous step.

Step 6) Time to put everything together – adhere your background piece to a slightly larger piece of white cardstock and then include the greeting piece using foam dots for extra detail.

Step 7) Finish the card with a heart made using the silicone mold, Melt-It powder and same color you have used in steps 4 and 5.

I used similar steps also in the making of this layout. There’s the words stamped and embossed with white, there’s the watercolor touches and then another embossed layer using a stencil and colored powder.

The embellishments in the layout are also made using the same silicone mold but I also made little drops or pearls with the powder. I used the last drops of Melt-It! – embossing powder mix for them and let the heated mixture drop from the Melt-It! Case to the edges of the mold and then let the drops cool. Waste non!

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you find inspiration in these! And please come and visit me at my own blog, too! Ta ta for now!

The Journey - Mixed Media Textures Card

Hey everyone! I hope you are well and feeling creative today. This month's blog project theme is Summer and I went for a less obvious route as inspiration for the project; journeys. Summer is all about holidays, trips out, getting out and enjoying the light, warmth (occasionally!) and possibilities it brings.

I firstly gessoed the front of the card and added the main texture of tulle net which I adhered with soft gel medium, sprinkled with embossing powders onto then melted with a heat tool .
Using a WOW! Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing pad to tap around the edges of the card I then sprinkled with Copper powder to add a dramatic metallic highlight.

On top of the net details I added a foiled die cut star and stamped leaf from the Feathers of Fancy
with the Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing pad. I sprinkled the images with Bonding Powder then melted with a heat tool and lightly pressed Teal and Copper Fab Foil onto the stamped details. Leave to cool, lift off and hey presto! For some further interest I layered stamped multiple images using the Sparkle & Shine set.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and feel inspired to give mixed media with embossing powders a try!

Have a wonderfully creative Friday.

Hello dear friends! Martha Lucia here to share with you an inspirational card that I made using a foiling technique for the main images and some embossing details to complement my design. Take a look at my card:

Creating this card was a simple process:
1. Cut the card base using Melon Mambo card stock. The size is 4-1/4"x11" with score in 5-1/2".
2. Cut a second layer using a piece of designer paper in a clear tone. I used one in beige color. The size is 4"x5-1/4".
3. Take some colors of PowderPuff Chalk Ink or any other ink and create some distress over the designer paper.

4. Take a Secret Garden Stamp and ink this with WOW Embossing Pad. Stamp this over the decorated paper created in step before and cover it with WOW Clear Gloss Super Fine Embossing Powder.

5. Melt the powder with the WOW Heat Tool and leave this piece aside for now.

6. Cut a medium heart using very vanilla card stock and a framelit. Again, ink the Secret Garden Stamp with WOW Embossing Pad and stamp the image over the heart.

7. Cover the image stamped over the heart with WOW Bonding Powder.

8. Melt the Bonding Powder with the WOW Heat Tool and paste the foil over the images. If you consider it necessary, you can re-heat the stamped image to activate the adhesion of the Fab Foil. In  my model I used three different colors of Fab Foil: Red, Blush and Teal.

9. Take the initial decorated layer and add one strip of lace and heart banner or card stock. I tied everything with two gold staples. Then paste the foiling heart using zapdots or dimensionals.
Stamp your sentiment using one of words included on the stamp set WOW Mr. Wow's Wonderful Words using VersaFine Sephia and WOW Clear Gloss Regular Embossing Powder and melt with WOW Heat Tool

10. To finalize the decoration I used one small heart that I made with White Makin's Clay and cut with a small heart punch. I inked the heart with WOW Embossing Pad and covered it with WOW Metallic Gold Rich Regular Embossing Powder. Melt the powder with the WOW Heat Tool.

11. Paste the embossed heart to the card using Helmar Premiun Craft and tie some doodles of melon thread.

12. Assemble your card by pasting the decorated layer over the card base.

I hope you enjoyed my card and tutorial, and share your creation with us in our challenge using the embossing techniques and Wow Products.

See you soon!

Life's A Beach

Good morning crafty friends, I hope you're all well and getting very creative this month!

As this month's challenge is summer and I live on an island it seemed only natural that my inspiration card would feature sea and sand.

To create my beach scene I started off with a piece of pale blue card and a rubbed a Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad across the top several times. I then sprinkled WOW Peppermint Tea Powder and Under The Sea Glitter over the top, tapped off the excess and melted with a heat tool. I created the sand underneath using Gold Pearl Powder.

For the sea I ran a line of PVA glue in the middle of the sky and sand with my finger, sprinkled with Under The Sea Glitter and melted with a heat tool. For the waves I added small areas of PVA straight from the nib of the bottle when added Opaque White Powder.

The birds and sentiment I have used Opaque British Summer Powder which is one of my favourite new powders, great colour and great name!

Finally, I added beach inspired die-cuts, twine and porthole and inked and distressed the edges to add to the nautical feel.

I hope this has inspired you and I will look forward to seeing your summery makes,

Hello everybody, this is Laurence today with a tutorial to create a card.
Today I wanted to try fab foil and I really love how it turns out. It is quite different from gold embossing powder and it may be used in different ways. You should give it a try!!!!
I use a frame covered with paper of an old book and dab directly on my frame with my embossing pad. I heat embossed with WOW bonding powder and when still hot I randomly added WOW fab foil by laying the sheet on the heated parts. I added a second layer in some spots.
The button is created with the WOW button mould. I melted WOW Primary Bluetiful and WOW opaque Vanilla White in a foil case, keeping moving the heatgun until completely melted and poured directly into the mould. Then I stamped and heat embossed a leaf with WOW opaque Vanilla and cut it out. The sentiment is stamped on vellum.

I can't wait to see what you create this month for the "Happy Summer" challenge. You may link your project here.

Mixed Media Canvases - Tutorial by Susanne

Hi my dear crafty friends!
Today I'd like to share a step by step tutorial for these two mixed media canvases.

Here are the instructions:
1. Cut two chipboard hearts and emboss them with a folder of your choice. Prime them with gesso. One with white, one with black.

2. Wipe the Embossing Ink Pad very slightly over both hearts. Add WOW! bonding powder to the white one. Melt it and add the WOW! Fab Foil Gold immediately.
Add WOW! Irridium to the black one.

 3. It's time to create the backgrounds. I use acrylic spray paints plus stencils at first.

4. I add Gelatos. I love to blend them with my fingers or a baby wipe.

5. I add some Embossing for a bit of texture. Stamp through the stencils with the Embossing Ink Pad and use WOW! Iced Silver and WOW! Turkish Nights Glitter.

6. I love to create texture so I add some more. I use fluorescent blue acrylic paint on the left canvas and Imagine Crafts Creative Medium on the right one.

7. I cut some leaves and colour them with a watercolor crayon. To give them dimension and a glossy finish I added WOW! Clear Gloss Powder. I do the same with the "Carpe Diem" die cut, which I cut from black cardstock.

8. I cut a doily and some branches.

9. Finaly I build everything together.

Thanks for stopping by today.
Hugs, Susanne.

Summer nautical shaker card

Ahoy, friends!
It is Victoria on the blog today, and first of all I would like to wish you warm and sunny summer days! This month our theme for the challenge is Summer  and here is my card to give you some inspiration :)
To tell the truth, I am not fond of summer - it is hard to bear the heat, though I like summer vacation on the seaside, and I love to make nautical projects. You can read the description of how-to-make this card just below.
I started to make the background, working wet-on-wet with sprays on watercolor paper. First I sprayed the water and then started to add color spray with a brush, drying the splashes with WOW! Heat Tool - Euro . Then I applied white gloss gel through the stencil to create the birds. Also I stamped few triangles with Sparkle & Shine (by Maya Isaksson) - Clear Stamp Set and Wow Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad , sprinkled over WS125 Under the Sea powder and heat set it.

Exploring Embossing - stamping foam!

Hey everyone, it's Jayne here with the latest instalment of "Exploring Embossing". I don't know if you know, but I am actu...
