(Almost) Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Hi everyone, Emma Godfrey here with an extra little project for this month's Heart topic.

I love making art that can be displayed in a frame, and this piece now has pride of place in my bedroom.

I cut out four hearts from some leftover scraps of painted background paper (I never throw anything away). I didn't have any heart dies, so I hand cut my hearts - I quite like the not perfect finish. I heat embossed the second largest heart using the WOW! Tropical stamp and WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Pale Super Fine embossing powder. I also covered the smallest heart with double sided tape and then covered it with WOW! Sparkles in Jade (see photos further down).

To create a simple background for my paper hearts, I took a sheet of book text and heat embossed hearts from the WOW! Layered Hearts stamp set, using the gold embossing powder from earlier and WOW! Clear Gloss Super Fine embossing powder.

I added a strip of double sided tape across the middle of the book text, and added more Sparkles before positioning the background in the picture frame mount.

I edged the hearts with some gold wax and then layered them up and glued them all in place.

Here's a close up of the final piece. I love how WOW! products can so easily jazz up leftover "rubbish" to make something so decorative. Hope you like it too!

With Love - video tutorial by Ola

Hi there!

My name is Ola and this is my first post as a member of WOW crafty family.
First of all, I would like to say a big thank you for the invitation to join the team and the opportunity to craft using products I love so much.

For the January challenge ''All about hearts'' I created a clean and simple card using heat- resistant vellum and an embossing blending technique.

Close up photo shown below

For the sentiment I have used Pink and Main ''Love'' Die set which is available at WOW Embossing Powders UK.

Here is step by step video tutorial on how to make this card. Enjoy!

Thank you for stopping by and happy crafting to all of you!
Ola xx

Metalline Himalayan Musk Hearts Card ....Jo Herbert

Hi All .. Jo here bringing to you a nice little sneak peak of a fabulous new colour that will be available to retailers and the WOW online stores in February 2018.

Today's card creation has a variety of elements such as masking, ink blending, pencil shading and background scoring.

My inspiration has come from the WOW's January Blog Challenge.

Even though this almost a one layer card there is so many ways to add texture and faux layers just with some simple techniques.

Apart from embossing powders, glitters and tools I also love the stamp collections that WOW has in their stores. Their array of background stamps are beautiful and have some intricate details that heat emboss really well as well as stamp crisply. Today I have used the J'Adore hearts background stamp which I have used with mask creating this heart on heart image.

I have recorded this card making process on you tube so please visit me over at You Tube and see today's card unfold in front of your eyes.

Happy Paper Crafting Peeps
Hugs
Jo

Thought I would get you a bit excited and add a picture of what is being released in February 2018

With all my heart - a card by Riikka

Hello there and sweet day! It's Riikka here today with a heart shaped card. Love is in the air as Valentines Day closes in, but on the other hand, there's always a good day to spread some love! Don't you think that too?

I have to confess something. Before my two girls I disliked pink. Even as a child I wanted to have the blue versions of everything as in my youth it seemed that everything came in either pink or blue. I can even remember having an argument with my mom about a jacket she was buying to me as she suggested this pale pink, like a cotton candy color and I insisted of having the jeans blue one. So yes, pink has never been my favorite. Even when my girls were small, they were rather clothed in blue than pink - and I heard quite a few times what lovely little boy I had. But when my older one turned three, everything changed. She insisted on having everything in pink and in glitter. So I just had to learn to live with it. And slowly I started first to endure pink and then even to love it. So nowadays you'll see quite a lot of pink in my crafts! But blue is still my favorite, by far.

But when it comes to hearts and Valentines, there's only one color to use and that's the once dreaded pink! If you wish to see how the card was made, please see the step by step below!

Step 1. Start by "painting" with the embossing powders. Prepare your card base. I cut the card base and the patterned paper using a Sizzix die and then trimmed the patterned heart smaller by hand. I then attached the layers together. Now that the base was ready, I first sprinkled some powders to the base and then carefully lay a piece of baking paper on top and heated the powder from the top.

Step 2. When I had my first, base layer done it was time to do another layer. Take a stencil with a small, repeating pattern, ink through it and emboss the design using same powders you used for the first layer. I chose to go with Opaque Bright White and Sweet Cheeks.

Step 3. Next up adding some glimmer and prepare embellishments. I cut some leaves using a die and then added some gold to them using Fab Foil. First I rubbed some paper glue to the leaves and then pressed the foil on top to attach some weathered looking gold to them.

Step 4. Onward with the embellishments! I used the Melt-It foil cups and also Melt-It powder together with some embossing powder to make a heart using the heart mould. Let the residue of the powder harden inside the cup and by crunching the cup a little, make the residue crack. Spare the cup for now.

Step 5. Add your embellishments to the card. I started by adhering the leaves in place and then added some golden thread to soften the look. On top of the frame created with the leaves I then adhered the molded heart and some paper roses.

Step 6. Add a sentiment to your card. I used the same patterned paper I had used to the card base and stamped the "Love You" phrase on it. I then used the Bonding Powder together with the Fab Foil to create a golden greeting or declaration of love. I then cut the strip into a flag shape and adhered it to the card.

Step 7. Last but not least, finish the card with some Sparkles, Mica flakes and also the residue from the Melt-It cup! I first added some glue near the composition and then sprinkled the Sparkles on top. Next I pushed some pieces of the mold residue to the mix and then finalized the card with a couple of golden Mica flakes.

Here you have it again - the finished card with the sparkling and golden touches! A great little something to be given to a loved one with a box of chocolates or a nice bunch of flowers!

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope the card inspires you!

Hugs,

Riikka

My First Blog Post And A Textured Thank You.

Oh my goodness this is my first blog post as a member of the WOW team and I have to say I'm absolutely thrilled to be here. It's very nerve-wracking to be delivering my first official post but at the same time I'm so very excited.

Let me introduce myself, I'm Jaine and I'm hoping to help inspire you with my own way of creating and my own style.

One thing I absolutely love in my work is texture. The inspiration for the background to this card  came when I was looking for a gift in a local flower shop and spotted a gorgeous embossed metal box with copper foiling over the embossing. The texture and shiny copper was gorgeous. It was quite distressed and not totally perfect which I also found beautiful. I held the image in my mind until I could try out something similar at home.

For the background to my card base I used texture paste and a stencil to create the raised design. Once that was dry I painted it over with two colours of acrylic paint blending them into one another.

That had to be totally dry before I could move on to the foiling stage and taking a piece of foam I lightly tapped the embossing ink onto the textured surface and I mean lightly. I didn't want ink all over or in the cracks too much.

I sprinkled the bonding powder over the surface then took a soft brush and brushed some of it off again especially any which had stuck to the flat card surface.

The bonding powder was heated up to melt it and the foil placed shiny side up over the molten powder. I rubbed the surface with my fingers until all of the powder was covered.

The shiny copper foil is just stunning I think.

To finish off the card I cut three hearts from card and used some of the new powder colours which are coming out this season as they co-ordinated so very well. I took Metaline Flame regular, Metaline 1st Frost regular and Metaline Greengage regular which are gorgeous colours I know you're going to love.  The thanks comes from the "Just Saying" stamp set and was mounted onto some copper card along with the background. I added more texture and dimension by layering up the hearts with some 3d gel and I'm really pleased with how it looks.

I hope you like the texture as much as I do and give it a go for yourselves.
