Halloween Card with a stencilled background by Jaine

I was recently reminded of how effective it can be to use a stencil with embossing powder instead of a stamp. It's not something which comes to mind instantly when thinking about embossing but once you've tried it, you'll just want to dig out all those favourite stencils and give them a go!

I know it's not usually a 'thing' to send a Halloween card but I couldn't resist making one. This arrows stencil was perfect for the background but instead of simply adding ink or paint, I thought I would add embossing powder to give it some texture. To lose the smooth, shiny surface from the powder, I added Texture Changers into it, this gave me a lighter colour and a texture like sand paper.

To create my background I used foam pads to add Embossing Ink through the stencil, taping it down to stop it from sliding around.

I mixed Primary Bird of Paradise and Primary Lemon with the Changers Texture in equal quantities to give me a nice bright orange.

Any left over powder mix left in the pot, no matter how small, doesn't go to waste as it can be used to emboss a scrap of card which could come in handy to die cut from next time.

For the houses, I used the Mixed Media Brush to add embossing ink as it gives a lovely deep layer of ink which is useful when adding powder with large particles such as the Black Magic.

For the tree I used Verdigris and Perissa on the circle, both embossed over black card for a more dramatic and deep colour.
