Winter Wonderland

This is my first posting for WOW Global and I am so excited to be here!!!

Here in New Zealand it is mid summer, kids are playing on water slides, day trips to beaches,  local parks and enjoying ice cream.  All my photos on my camera are of sunny warm days.  I had this fabulous idea of getting a great photo of all the kids (6)  lined  up eating ice cream but it just did not happen.  So I found myself a bit stuck with this months challenge!  ICE AND SNOW! So I had to put my thinking cap on.  I was at our local garden center the other day getting some lettuce seedlings for the kids to plant when I stumbled across this CUTE bird. I knew I had to take him home! He sat on my table for a while and then it hit me.  I could do a winter theme canvas. I have not played with canvas a lot so I was a bit worried that it would not work. I love what I achieved and will be doing more!

I have started with a wee canvas turned round so I could use the back which created a framed working surface.  I applied  gesso over the whole surface.  Building it up in places hoping it would look like lumps of snow :-) and let it dry.

While it was drying I got out my cuttlebug and created a few textured surfaces. The first one I did I got a bit of chip board and created a frame.  I used my Versa Mark pad and ran it over the top surface of my embossed area and then embossed with WOW BLACK GLITTER. Once that was set I got out some Picket Fence distress stain and stamp effects metallic rub on to add some dimension.

For the second textured background I used my WOW EMBOSSING PEN and randomly swiped it over areas to emboss with OPAQUE BRIGHT WHITE POWDER  and NEUTRAL ULTRA SHIMMER EMBOSSING GLITTER. I then got out my distress inks and added a bit of colour.  (broken china)
I then covered the entire surface with my Versa Mark Pad and embossed over with CLEAR MATT DULL EMBOSSING POWDER to give it that iced over effect.

Now there is 3 photos showing this next part.  I REALLY loved how this turned out!

Here I have made some branches using Creative Paper Clay and a cake icing mold which I brought at Scrapbook Paradise, sorry I can not remember the brand.  I then embossed them with three colors by sprinkling them over to give it a multi- colour effect. The colors I used were EARTHTONE PAPRIKA and NUTMEG with PRIMARY BARK, I also added some gathered twigs distress ink.

I added a mixture of fibers and beads to the back ground and coloured some white leaves.  Once it was all stuck together with glossy accents I added some Diamond Dust and more distress stain for a bit of a white wash effect.  The easel was to clean so I got some METALLIC COPPER EMBOSSING POWDER out and embossed randomly over the entire easel, added some metallic rub on and again some Picket Fence Distress Stain.  And there you have it! My first posting YAY!  hope you enjoy.

Now don't forget you still have some time to join us in our monthly challenge   You can find all the details here.
Until next month take care and Happy Scrappin :-)  Donna
