Using an Embossed Die Cut as a Focal Point

Hey there! Thanks for joining me again for the second week of guest designing for WOW! Embossing Powder. It's been a real blast so far. If you missed last week's post, you can catch it here.

This week, we'll create a focal point in our clean and simple card design using an embossed die cut piece.

The focal point of a card or project draws the eye to the most important part. In this project, I have chosen a sun burst die element and heat embossed with Pop embossing powder from the WOW! Confetti Trio.

First, I die cut the burst from Neenah Solar White, 110 lb cardstock. Then, I inked it up with WOW! Ink and poured the powder of the die cut. Next, I lifted the die cut piece out of the orange and silver powder with my reverse tweezers. Then, I let my heat tool get nice and hot and gradually heated up the powder, careful not to blow away the silvery chunks.

In this example, I trimmed down the negative space panel to 4 x 5.25 inches and popped it up with dimensional adhesive onto the front of an A2-sized card base.

Then, I popped up the embossed die cut in the center, pressing some of the fronds of the burst back into their holes and pulling up others.

Next, I die cut the word LOVE out of the Tall Alphabet Dies from Concord and 9th and adhered them to the front of the card with strong liquid adhesive from Hero Arts.

Then, I die cut the word YOU out with another Concord and 9th die using navy cardstock. There are several different dies from C9 that have the same style and size of YOU. The one I used is no longer available from C9, but you can still get it elsewhere.

To finish off the card, I added some Peachy Keen Jelly Hearts from Trinity Stamps. I have to say, I think this Pop Embossing Powder makes the perfect focal point with this die! I loved the result.

Thank you for stopping by the blog today! I hope you will give this technique a try. If you want to shop for the supplies I used, I have a list of them below with affiliate links. When you use these links, you help support my creative efforts at no additional cost to you.
