Create a brave story - a set of cards by Riikka Kovasin

Moikka! It's Riikka here today from Paperiliitin blog! I'm really excited to be back here for a couple of posts this month and to tell you the truth - there's more coming along the year!

These cards were inspired by a wonderful creative event that took place in Frankfurt this January. I'm talking about Creativeworld and more over the amount of street art in there. There was several stands with street art influences and even an exhibition area of it. It was wonderful to see the artists working!

What I was also inspired by was the new WOW! products! It was awesome to see those in use at WOW! booth and even get some to play with at home. The new embossing powders were splendid, the sets beautiful but what really drew my eye was the embossing ink refiller! I really loved the way you're able to apply the ink with it, it's full of possibilities!

I combined the two inspiration sources in these cards - the freehand possibility of the refiller and also the street art jumping of point. I made the backgrounds for the cards using three different colors of foils. To be able to foil the free form lines of the refiller, I used bonding powder and then applied the foil on top. I also wanted some bolder elements, so I also used double sided tape. If you want to see how I made the cards, please see the video below.

Maybe something inspired by street art should be more colorful, but to me the three colors of the foils were enough. I used "Spearmint", "Blush" and "Teal". The cards shine really wonderfully in real life, but taking photos of them proved to be a more difficult task! Hopefully you can still see the colors and shine here!

Thank you for stopping by today! All the best,

xoxo Riikka

  1. This is certainly a different and interesting way of using the foils which are really pretty, but can also be grungy too with the way you have used them. I love the stencilling and the added large sentiments to finish. x

Handy Stamp Storage Idea

Hello everyone... Happy Tuesday! :D

It's Sarah here with today's blog post created for our Monochromatic theme.

I don't know about you, but I always find I need to use stamps from a mixture of stamp sets and I thought it would be easier if I didn't have to slide each stamp set in and out of the packets all of the time.

I have a bunch of empty CD cases that I had almost thrown out but thankfully I hadn't as they turned out to be the perfect solution! The part that holds the CD easily popped out so I could then position my different stamp sets within them.

I found an old wooden CD box but it had no lid and as all clear acrylic stamps are best stored out of the light, I decided I would make a box lid for it... not just a plain lid though... a Wow Embossed box lid!

Here are brief instructions on how to make it:

Using pearl silver card, I created a square to the size that I needed (145mm) and added 30mm wide rectangles around the square adding in some t…

Life's A Beach

Good morning crafty friends, I hope you're all well and getting very creative this month!
As this month's challenge is summer and I live on an island it seemed only natural that my inspiration card would feature sea and sand.
To create my beach scene I started off with a piece of pale blue card and a rubbed a Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad across the top several times. I then sprinkled WOW Peppermint Tea Powder and Under The Sea Glitter over the top, tapped off the excess and melted with a heat tool. I created the sand underneath using Gold Pearl Powder.

For the sea I ran a line of PVA glue in the middle of the sky and sand with my finger, sprinkled with Under The Sea Glitter and melted with a heat tool. For the waves I added small areas of PVA straight from the nib of the bottle when added Opaque White Powder.

The birds and sentiment I have used Opaque British Summer Powder which is one of my favourite new powders, great colour and great name!
Finally, I added beach in…
