Embossed Ornaments: Alcohol ink

Hello Lovely Crafty Friends, It’s Sasha Here. I know many of us will be focused on Christmas crafting that’s why I thought this would be the best time to share a few ways to use embossing powders to make some wonderful one of a kind ornaments. There is a full process reel over on WOW! Embossing Powder Social media so please watch that for a clearer idea of the process and to see the extra gorgeous glossy sheen that I can’t capture in pictures!

I started by taking a wooden Christmas ornament that can be purchased in any craft shop but the ones I used will be linked at the end of this post.
I then pressed it into my WOW! Embossing slow drying ink pad so as to ink it up before I added a generous layer of white Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder. I then heat embossed this with the highest setting on the WOW! Embossing dual setting heat tool. I repeated the same steps 2 more times so that the ornament was covered with three layers of white ultra high embossing powder.
TIP two layers of the white powder usually is the trick but adding three gives that extra thickness and adds to the overall look of the finished product.

Once the ornament had fully cooled down, I then took my alcohol inks. (The colours I used are linked below.) I started by adding my alcohol ink colours in random patches, you can also add it in stripes or whatever design floats your boat.
Next I took my heat tool and added heat allowing the reheated molten embossing powder to bubble up and rise giving the alcohol inks a faded and softer look. If you want a bolder look, just keep adding more alcohol ink and reheating the embossing powder.
TIP make sure the embossing powder levels itself before allowing it to cool.

Once the ornament had cooled down, I went ahead and used some tape to stick it down on my stamping platform then I stamped a Holly Jolly sentiment using hybrid ink. The trick is not to use a pressure tool to rub over the stamping platform lid but rather to press the lid down into to the ornament. Repeat stamp until the sentiment is as bold as you want it to be. Finish off your ornament with some hanging ribbon!

There are many different variations of this that you can do so please don’t be afraid to experiment and if it doesn’t go your way, just cover it with 2 layers of the ultra high embossing powder and start again! No one will ever know! Also don’t forget this method can be used on your die cuts so please have fun creating some one of a kind Christmas ornament cards or tags or maybe even matching sets of everything!!

Crafty hugs,
Sasha x
