Hello Beautiful - Embossing the Details

Hi friends,

Colleen here again, Guest Designing for the month with WOW! Embossing Powder! Today I want to share how you can bring your cards to the next level by embossing the details. Embossing the detail work in your cards adds shine, interest, and texture. It can really help your cards pop with interest! Let's take a look at my card below:

I wanted to create a summery layered card using my new products from Paper Trey Ink! I started by stamping the bird Feathered Friends Mini 21 in shades of yellow, grey, and beach blue. Then I went over the details, or 2nd layers, of the bird with Clear Gloss Regular WOW! Embossing Powder. The clear gloss allows the original color to show through but adds depth and shine. Can you see the embossed details in the photo below?

Nexxt, I set my finished bird aside and worked on the background. I die cut a piece of patterned paper from Share Your Heart using Border Bling: Lots of Dots die and then placed it over another piece of blue patterned paper. I adhered both to a white card base sized 5.5x4.25. Then I stamped one of the large circles from Pattern Party stamp set in Beach Blue Color Fuse Inks by Rubbernecker. You can see that pretty blue right behind the bird in the photo above! Then I die cut the patterned image using the smaller die from Border Bling: Twigs. I die cut the larger die from the same set with patterned paper from the Share Your Heart set. I set aside the negative (outer) pieces of these die and die cut both pieces again, only this time onto a white card panel.  I set aside the positive (inner) pieces from the white cardstock and used the negative pieces because I planned to emboss them. Both were embossed using Golden Bloom embossing powder from the Golden Age trio. Then I adhered them over the positive pieces, as you can see in the photo below. Look how that shine and detail adds so much interest to the design!

The last step was to prop my bird and sentiment onto the card panel. I die cut and heat embossed several leaves from the Twigs die set using Golden Green from the Golden Age trio. Then I placed them below the bird so that she looked like she was propped up on a twig. I finished with my sentiments!

I love how the small details can add so much impact onto a card! Embossing Powder is always going to be a sure bet to achieve that goal!

I'm so glad you joined me today!

  1. What a pretty card with that really sweet bird Colleen and the red check paper around to frame it, and the die cut with all the dots and the blue behind it looks great. I love the sort of twiggy oval and rectangular frame and also the leaves beneath the bird both beautifully embossed. x
