Video with Verity: Modern Monochromatic cards

 

Hello, it's Verity with another video and blog post as a Creative team member for WOW! Monochromatic cards are fun to create and can add a lovely interest to your cards. Well, today I'm showing you three ways to create modern monochromatic cards that can WOW! your recipients when they arrive in the post. All three cards today feature either blue or teal colours, but you could choose any colour you prefer, so let's get started!

Technique 1: Watermark stamping

This card creates the monochromatic look using just the WOW! Clear Ultra Slow drying embossing pad. First of all, use the pad to stamp the rose from the Altenew Darling Rose stamp set onto Gina K Seaglass Cardstock with your embossing pad. This will allow you to do no-line clouring with pencils. 

Using a selection of teal pencils, colour the rose in, added darker shades in the creases of the petals to add depth and dimension. Once coloured, fussy cut the rose out. For the background, we will use the pad to create some tone on tone stamping. 

Stamp a selection of the leaves and rose around a Seaglass card panel, and position your coloured rose over the top to align the leaves on the background. Continue to do this until you have filled in your background to your liking. 

Add this background panel onto a blank card base and foam mount the foam onto the card. Add a heat embossed sentiment from the stamp set and finish with a few iridescent sequins to embellish the card. 

Technique 2: Colour match embossing

This time we'll add heat embossing, but use colour within the same tone as the card. Start off by stamping the PinkFresh Studio Colour Block Gradient Strips stamp set onto a piece of Gina K Tranquil Teal Cardstock with your embossing ink. 

Next, cover this with Sea of Tranquility embossing powder and heat set. This powder comes in the Seth Apter Cosmic Trio set. For the sentiment, I used the Julie Hickey Designs Lowercase alphabet dies to die cut 'happy bday' and foam mounted these onto the front of the card. 

I also added a thin sentiment strip reading to you which was created from an Altenew Sentiment Strip stamp set. To finish the card off, I added a few white Nuvo drops around the card. 

Technique 3: neutral heat embossing

This time we can add some detail with neutral heat embossing such as white, black and grey/silvers. For this card, stamp a snowflake from the Catherine Pooler Designs 'Chillin' Snowflakes' stamp set with your embossing ink pad. This card uses Gina K Blue Denim cardstock.

Next, cover this with High Heels WOW! Embossing glitter. Do not heat set until you have stamped and covered all of the background. When ready to heat set, do this from the back to prevent the glitter from blowing off. 

Adhere the card panel down onto a matching card base. For the sentiment, stamp a sentiment from the stamp set onto white card in Juniper Mist ink. Trim this down and foam mount onto the front of the card. 

Lastly, embellish the card with blue sequins to finish the card off.
