Playing With Paint and Powder by Jaine

It's good to experiment and try different ways of doing things. A fun way to use embossing powder is by adding it to a painted background. One of my favourite colours to use at the moment is this gorgeous gold called Unicorn's Hair by Prima. It goes so well with almost any other colour or background and is perfect for accents or full blown embellishments. I'm drawn to stars and circles too and love to create these small pieces of art to add to cards or just as artworks in their own right.

I added a good thick layer with my spatula before dropping on the powder. I chose powders with a mixture of large and small particles so the Riviera Trio and Black Magic were perfect.

I experimented both with leaving the paint to dry overnight before heating and heating straight away and to be honest the only difference that made was the powder over the dry paint took longer to set as the paint had dried around the grains. The wet paint tended to bubble up under the powder which created more texture. So it's worth experimenting I think.

I'm very pleased at how they turned out.

Add a few collage elements and a square painted background and you have an instant piece of art.

Try it for yourself and experiment with different coloured backgrounds and powders to create some amazing contrasts.
