Hello, it's Verity with another video and blog post as a Creative team member for WOW!In today’s video we’re going to create 3 cards where we will be using pearl embossing powder with vellum. What I love about pearl embossing powders is the soft sheen they have and how they elevate your heat embossing for elegant stunning cards. I use vellum and pearl embossing powder in 3 slightly different ways so let’s get started.Repeat heat embossed die-cut inlay Video Tutorial:(You can view this directly on WOW! Vellum Gatefold card:
For this first card, place the Altenew dotted diamonds background stamp into your MISTI stamping platform. Next, place a piece of vellum into the MISTI as well and ink up the background stamp with WOW! Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing ink. Stamp this twice to ensure you get a good impression with a large stamp like this. For this piece, cover it in Gold Pearl Embossing powder. When heat set it is a stunning gold colour when caught in the light but a lovely soft yellow sheen when not.
To turn this embossed background into a gatefold card, score a piece of 4.3/4” by 5.5” card stock at ½” each end so when folded, measures 4.1/4” by 5.5”. Next, trim the background heat embossed vellum down to make two pieces measuring at 5.5”x 2.1/8”. To adhere these to the card, add double sided tape along each fold and adhere them onto the card. In addition, add two strips measuring at ½ by 5.5 inches to put over the top to hide the adhesive.
The sentiment for this card comes from Altenew ‘Reason to smile stamp set’ and was heat embossed in white embossing powder before adhering to the front of the card. This helps keeps the flaps closed.Vellum strip window card:
For the next vellum piece, we are going to use the Altenew Dot Art stamp set, using one of the large dotted leaf branches. Again, use your MISTI to stamp the image in clear ultra slow drying embossing ink. For this piece, use violet pearl embossing powder. Now, the colour of the pearl you see will depend on what colour the cardstock is that you are embossing over. As vellum is pale, this will heat set to appear white. However, when this catches the light it gives off a lovely soft violet shade. Now, this can be very hard to see when photographed, but I hope you are able to see the lovely soft violet sheen in the video. It is lovely in real life. Now we will use this to create a vellum embossed strip window card. Trim a piece of Gina K wild lilac cardstock trimmed down to 4 ¼” wide and about 2 1/2 ” tall. Next add double sided tape to adhere the vellum to the panel, and then add a second panel of the same size over the top, sandwiching the vellum inside and hiding the adhesive. For the bottom edge, add a small strip to the bottom of the vellum. I find it useful to do this with my guillotine as I can line it up straight and also make sure that my strip creates a 5.5” long card panel. Then I just flip this over and add another strip again, hiding the adhesive. To add a little more interest to the card, protect the vellum using some Heffy Doodle memo tape and ink blend Catherine Pooler ‘Royal Treatment’ ink from the bottom, upwards and out fading this as I get nearer the top. Blending brushes are perfect for this as you can get a lovely soft blend and no harsh lines. In addition, add Catherine Pooler ‘A queen for Day’ ink as this will intensify the colour at the bottom of the panel. Lastly, right at the bottom go in with Black Jack ink for more intensity. Move the memo tape to add the ink to the bottom panel just to give a continuous ink blend. To turn this into a card, trim another piece of card to 6” till by 4 1/4 ” wide and I have score it ½ “ from the top to create a fold line. Use a bone folder to fold over and add the card panel to this flap creating a top folding card. For the sentiment, stamp and emboss ‘Hello sending love and hugs’ from the dotted art stamp set in Opaque Bright white embossing powder.Vellum focal stamping card:
Now for the last vellum piece, stamp two little flowers from the Altenew Vase Fillers stamp set. As I mentioned the colour on which the pearl embossing sits on affects the colour you see once heat set. So this time, stamp the flowers onto vellum in Catherine Pooler ‘Sugared lavender’ ink. As vellum is not as porous as paper, the ink will sit more on top of the vellum.
With this, and the fact that Catherine Pooler inks can stay wet a little longer than normal die inks, we can then cover this with embossing powder. So this time, cover the images in White Pearl Embossing powder. When you heat sets the white powder melts and creates a pearl embossing of the ink we have used – so we have Pearl sugared lavender embossing. For this card, use the Dotted Diamond stamp with white pearl embossing powder onto white card for tone on tone background. Fussy cut the two flowers out and foam mount these onto the card. The sentiment on this card is a digital sentiment from Graceille Designs ‘More than you know’ digital stamp set, and it is foiled in in Silver WOW! Fab foil. This was trimmed up in to small strips and foam mounted onto the card panel. The hole panel was added to a Lovely Lavendar Card base. All the cards where then finished of with Lucy’s cards Sprinkles crystal circles and these were scattered around the cards.
Hopefully, this has inspired you to get your pearl embossing powders out next time you use vellum and given you several different ways to incorporate it into your papercrafts. Pearl embossing powders are a fantastic way to add a touch of elegance to your projectsRepeat heat embossed die-cut inlay Supplies:
