Five Ways to Use Clear Embossing Powder with Jenny

Hi everyone!  Jenny here, and today I'm going to be showing you five ways to use clear embossing powders.  I love clear embossing powder - it's so versatile, and these techniques are super easy.

I use both the WOW! Embossing Clear Gloss and the Matte - you can use either of these for the techniques.   I also have a video showing how I created the four projects.

My first card uses WOW! Clear Gloss embossing powder on black cardstock. You can use this technique for creating an enamel type look. It works particularly well with black cardstock, Clear Gloss Superfine embossing powder, and very detailed stamped and repeated patterns.

I used the Rebecca Lace Background stamp by Simon Says Stamp to create this card - simply stamp with WOW! Embossing ink and heat emboss in Superfine Clear Gloss (perfect for the detail in this image.

I wanted to keep it clean and simple, so I added a Simon You Are Kind die cut from holographic card stock and sequins.

My next technique uses Clear Matte embossing powder to create an engraved metal look.  You can use any type of clear embossing powder, but the matte really gives that engraved effect when used on metallic cardstock.

I stamped the Catherine Pooler Flourishes background onto brushed silver cardstock.  This stamp is good for this technique as it has wider areas to stamp with.

My third technique is using clear embossing powder to add shine and dimension to your sentiments. I dunked this Hello die cut (by Erin Lee Creative) into WOW! Embossing ink and heat embossed with clear gloss.  I repeated this three times as I had Superfine grade powder, but if you have the Ultra High Clear, you'll only need to do it once!  The bonus is that it is ready and dry much quicker than wet gloss mediums like Glossy Accents!

My fourth technique uses emboss resist to trap patterned paper under clear embossing.  You can use any type of patterned paper for this - I recommend pairing it with a stamp that has solid areas to give enough room to show through to the patterned paper below.  Here I'm using paper from Altenew, in conjunction with a Hero Arts Marble background stamp.

I stamped the image in embossing ink onto the patterened paper and heat embossed in clear gloss embossing powder.  I then went over the paper with Distress Oxide in Black Soot.  The embossing powder resists the ink but the paper absorbs it.  It leaves you with this wonderful contrast and you can see the pattern on the paper below, once you buff off the ink from the clear powder.  I recommend using black or dark ink for this technique.

I finished the card with the WPlus9 Fabulous die cut from silver glitter cardstock, and popped up on foam tape.

My final technique uses a similar approach but uses colored cardstock rather than patterned paper. I use pale purple cardstock along with the Rondi's Window background stamp by Catherine Pooler.

I stamped the image on the cardstock and then heat embossed in clear powder. I then blended Distress Oxide inks (which are opaque and therefore cover over the colored cardstock) over the panel. I used Peacock Feathers and Worn Lipstick. The embossing powder resists the ink as before and you can buff off the ink to reveal what looks like purple embossing powder!

I finished the card by stacking a the Birch Press Design Love Sugar Script die 4 times and adding to the centre. I added the You from the holographic die cut from the first card above, and scattered some Crystal Gems.

That finishes all my techniques and cards - I'm sure there are many more - I highly recommend having a large jar of clear embossing powder in your stash at all times!
