Hi there, crafty friends! It is Victoria here today. Can you believe it is May already?.. This month our theme is "Anything but a card", so I created a steampunk notebook for my husband - it was our 10 anniversary on May,3 and that is a part of a gift.
For making the cover I took two cardboard pieces 10*18 cm each, a piece of fabric about 30*20 cm, and also a piece of felt for softness. I glued the felt to the cardboard and then covered it with fabric, as usual. Then I coloured the fabric with red and brown sprays and covered it with clear gloss medium for waterproof and shiny look. When it dried, I set the eyelets and rings.
Then I started to create my faux-metal panels. I used two pieces of watrcolour paper 8*16 cm each, rounded the corners and applied gear pattern with a texture paste through the stencil. After that I took some leftovers from chipboard, metal gear and a tiny handle and glued them to the backgrounds. Also I added accents with liquid pearls.
I painted the panels with black gesso and started to reveal the texture. For that I used dry brush and silver acrylic paint, adding a bit of it only to the raised areas. I dried the paint with WOW! Heat Tool - Euro to speed the process. Then I sponged embossing ink from Wow Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad to the raised areas and sprinkled and heat set WC05 Metallic Silver powder. I didn't need even coverage, only metallic look. Then I added a bit more ink and applied some WC02 Metallic Copper and WC04 Metallic Gold Rich powders. After heat-setting I used one of my favourites, WL05 Verdigris powder - I absolutely adore it!
I am really happy with the result!
