Showing posts with the label Butterfly stamp

A Serendipitous Moment! By Jaine

I had intended to create a very different blog post to the one I ended up with, but thanks to a bit of lateral thinking I came upon a happy surprise!

This is the foiled card I made first, very pretty in its own right. Stamped with a Pink and Main stamp called You Can Fly and foiled in Silver Foil. I could easily have left it there, but I looked at the little pile of discarded foils ( I do keep every scrap - like you do!) and the butterfly die and had one of those light bulb moments.

What if I took a piece of double sided sticky sheet, die cut the butterfly from it and applied the bits of foil randomly over the sticky surface?

As there were so many little bits in odd shapes, it created a crazy abstract pattern with the foils. I was liking it more and more.

I added another colour, simply pressing the foil down onto the sticky surface and pulling up. Just like a wax strip! Enough said!!

I kept on going, filling in the spaces until I could feel no more sticky. I was thrilled with the res…

Non-Traditional Holiday Colors come to Life

Happy Holidays!
I thought I had an original idea brewing, but the Internet told me otherwise. (Thanks, Pinterest and Mommy bloggers!). Plus, I was inspired by the brilliance of a classic artist whose wise words spanned time:
It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block.  ~Paul Gauguin
This month, the 7 Girls & a Smoking Gun design team, put together fantastic projects you can recreate for the holidays in non-traditional colors.
But first, let’s start with our showcase designer this month, Donna O’Leary, the infamous midnight scrapper. The Designer's Showcase is a chance to show us the best, favorite techniques in a project of the designer’s choice.
I think the box that Donna decorated would be a wonderful gift in itself even without goodies tucked inside. Take a look!

Love canvas

Hi there!
Birgit here today with a little love canvas.

I first covered the canvas with tags, a doily and pieces of book paper. On top I put a thin layer of Gesso leaving some parts of book print uncovered. On those parts I stamped with bubble wrap and Versamark and embossed it with WOW! clear gloss regular. This keeps the book print visible and creates a resist for the Tattered Angels glimmer mist that I sprayed on top.

I layered a piece of Punchenella (Sequin waste) as a mask in the left upper corner and filled a couple of spots with Versamark and then embossed it with WOW! Metallic Silver regular. After spraying the whole canvas with glimmer mist I took a little piece of cardstock, used my crop-a-dile to punch out a couple of little holes and layered it on the canvas. I filled in the holes with Versamark, removed the cardstock mask and embossed the little circles with Suzy West Whirly Pop regular.

A heart cut from book paper was sprayed with glimmer mist. I put a piece of Punchenella o…
