Ombre Sentiment Embossing with Jenny

Hi Everyone!  It's Jenny here, and today I have a video for you that shows you two techniques - embossing with stencils, and create ombre effects with embossing powder.

I absolutely love the ombre effects you can get with ink blending or watercolor, but it's a little more tricky with embossing powder if you're trying get a nice blend without that harsh line between colours. I show you a simple tip to fix that, and the best thing about it is it works with any combination of colours you can think of!

Check out the video below or over on the WOW! Embossing channel to see how.

Both of my cards feature tone on tone backgrounds which I created by smushing the WOW! Embossing ink pad through a stencil (I'm using Alexandra Renke stencils for both cards) and then heat embossing.   For the red card, I used Primary Apple Red powder, and for the blue I used Mint Macaroon which gives a lovely pearly finish.  I die cut them both with a Studio Katia die and adhered them to a white 110lb cardbase.

I really wanted the focus of the cards to be the sentiment so I chose the largest I had in my stash (they are by Altenew) and added two layers of Rose Gold embossing powder on the 'You' and two layers of Singing in the Rain on the 'Thank You'.

I then overlaid my embossing pad only half way up the word dies and added two layers of a secondary color - I used Primary Apple Red on the 'You' and Mint Macaroon on the 'Thank You'.

To get the ombre effect, focus your heat tool a little longer on the areas where the two colours meet (I recommend setting 1 if you have the WOW! Dual Heat tool).  With four layers of embossing powder they will melt together and into each other.  The longer you heat, the more they melt and blend together.

To finish the cards, I added the sentiments to panel with foam tape and finished with sentiments from Simon Says Stamp stamped in Catherine Pooler Inks (Rocking Red and Stone Blue). My red card was finished with stickers by Crate Paper and both cards were embellished with Unicorn Crystals from Honeybee Stamps.

I do hope you'll try out this technique - I've listed the WOW! supplies below but you can use any colours for this technique - have fun!!

  2. This ombre technique using the embossing powders is a great idea Jenny and the large sentiments make great focal points on these two very contrasting cards with the bright red and then the softer blue.
