Handy Stamp Storage Idea

Hello everyone... Happy Tuesday! :D

It's Sarah here with today's blog post created for our Monochromatic theme.

I don't know about you, but I always find I need to use stamps from a mixture of stamp sets and I thought it would be easier if I didn't have to slide each stamp set in and out of the packets all of the time.

I have a bunch of empty CD cases that I had almost thrown out but thankfully I hadn't as they turned out to be the perfect solution! The part that holds the CD easily popped out so I could then position my different stamp sets within them.

I found an old wooden CD box but it had no lid and as all clear acrylic stamps are best stored out of the light, I decided I would make a box lid for it... not just a plain lid though... a Wow Embossed box lid!

Here are brief instructions on how to make it:

STEP ONE

Using pearl silver card, I created a square to the size that I needed (145mm) and added 30mm wide rectangles around the square adding in some tabs so that I would be able to stick the flaps together neatly. I embossed the circle heart from the Wow "Is It A Bird" stamp set around the edges using Silver Pearl Embossing Powder and scored all of the required lines so that it would fold together.

STEP TWO

On a Dark Grey Pearl card, I stamped and heat Embossed Wow "Brocade" stamp twice using Silver Pearl Embossing Powder. Cut these two pieces out.
STEP THREE

Using pearl silver card, I stamped the frame from Wow "Simply Amazing" stamp set and heat embossed using Silver Embossing Powder. I then created the text within the frame using the Wow Embossing Pen and Black Ebony Embossing Powder. I used super fine embossing powder for the text as there was quite a lot of small details. Cut around the frame but leave space either side for ribbon slits - see the images below!

MAKE UP THE BOX LID
I attached the two pieces of dark grey embossed card to the lid using double sided tape. I threaded dark grey ribbon through two slits either side of the frame and then through two slits within the box lid and secured neatly on the inside of the box lid. Add some foam pads to the back of the frame to lift it. I used double sided tape on the tabs and made the up the box.

I created a guide so I can easily see which stamps are within each case.

I might decorate the rest of the box at a later date but at least for now, my stamps are protected from the sunlight! :D Now all of my stamps are all together and quick and easy to use. I still keep the large single stamps on their transparent backing all together in a single DVD case rather than within the separate packets that they came in (the CD cases aren't large enough but the extra large stamps are easier to peel off a flexible backing anyway so this works out well).

Here's a list of the Wow products that I used:
Wow "Is It A Bird" stamp set
Wow "Brocade" stamp set
Wow "Simply Amazing" stamp set
Silver Pearl Embossing Powder
Silver Embossing Powder
Black Ebony Embossing Powder
Wow Embossing Pen

A Host of Monochrome Butterflies

Hi again, Christine Saunders here with this month's theme - "Monochrome" .

"Monochrome" means "black and white" or "one colour" so Iv'e made lots of Butterflies with the lovely Pearlescent Embossing Powders using only one colour on each.  These powders look lovely on black or dark coloured cardstock and can look different depending on which colour you choose for your background.

I first stamped each Butterfly surround with the "Build a Butterfly" stamp set using one colour taken from the Pearlescent Embossing powders range. I then added the inside to each of the butterflies using the same colour that I'd used for each surround.
I added a flower stamen folded in half as antennae for each butterfly and stuck this to the back of the butterfly with double sided foam pads.

The body of each Butterfly was made using seed beads. Drop some PVA Glue (it should dry crear) or Glossy Accents onto the body section and drop seed beads into the glue to create the body.  I used seed beads which were the same colour as the Butterfly to keep the monochrome theme.

These Butterflies could be used for Scrapbooking, Card-Making, as a hanging mobile, on hair slides or kirby grips for children, to decorate childrens' rooms, on canvasses to add dimension, on picture frames - the list goes on and on.

Back to Black

Hi Everyone

This month over at WOW is 'monochrome' month.  Here is my take:

I have used a sizzix tag and stamped vintage wallpaper on it in versamark then sprinkled it with bright white embossing powder and heat set then gone over it with black soot distress ink and rubbed off any excess with a paper towel.

I have then got a 2nd tag, using thinner card and stamped on one side the funky border in versamark then black ebony embossing powder, heat set.  On the other I have used direct to paper technique and gone over in black soot, then rubbed with a paper towel to get off the excess.

I have then taken the brocade background stamp and inked it up in versamark.  I have taken another background stamp french music and inked this up in black soot.  I have pressed the french music into the brocade stamp - called 'kissing effect' then stamped the brocade stamp onto the tag,  putting two impressions into the card.

I have then cut the tag and folded over part of it distress in the sides, and putting small brads in each end.  I have then stamped out a butterfly from build a butterfly, one layer on white card the other on acetate and sprinkled with ebony embossing powder and heat set.

The thank you comes from everyday sentiments and finishing off with pieces of ribbon, a metal sentiment - journey, and some peel off brads.

I have then glued one tag on top of the other.

Dreamer!

Hi Bloggers, Rachel here again with my project for this months Monochromatic Challenge.

I love the pearlescent powders but wasn't sure what I wanted to create with them until I saw an article by Louise Nelson in Scrap 365 magazine using tranparencies. I loved her ideas so here is my offering using a similar layout to one of hers.

I only used Silver Pearl Embossing Powder but as you can see the effect changes dependant on the colour of ink or card used, shown on the heat resistant acetate and the stamped dandelions.

Although I edited the photo's of my 'far away' son so that they were soft images I tried to keep the look a little more masculine by doodling borders - I don't think it's too feminine, is it?!

The products I've used are: Silver Pearl Embossing Powder
                                            Brocade - Clear Stamp
Make A Wish - ME Clear Stamp

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and don't forget to keep popping back to see what our other fabulous design team members have been up to.

Monochrome with Pearl Powders

So we're into August and its my turn, Emma (aka The Sparkly Fairy) to share with you my creation. The WOW DT challenge this month is to create a monochrome project using the Pearl Powders.

These are quite magical! In the pot they are simply white powder, but if you look at the swatch chart I made, you will see how they turn into the most fantastic colours. The colours can also be altered by using different coloured inks for stamping the image.

To make the above card I used the Silver Pearl powder which again looks completely white in the pot. I stamped the dandelions from the Make A Wish Stamp set and embossed with the powder. I then stamped the butterflies from the same set, embossed them and cut them out. This gives them a 3D look. I stamped and embossed the Believe sentiment from the Journalling set of stamps. I cut out the design with deckle scissors and dipped the edges into the powder.  Finally I put the card through an embossing folder to give extra texture.

Don't forget to come along and join us in the challenge for a chance to win 12 WOW Embossing Powders of your choice!

French (German) House Number

You can see that our house number is not very inspiring ............but not for much longer!!
Any artist or crafter I know loves the blue enameled house numbers. A lot of people refer to them as French house numbers, but in German villages you can still find the old enameled house numbers and street names too (rather than the cheaper looking new version)
I have created this house number with my favourite blue WOW embossing powder Primary Lagoon. I cut the number and frame out with a cutting machine then covered the background with two layers of Primary Lagoon. The frame and numbers were covered in two layers of white embossing powder.

I glued the number and frame to the blue background. It can sometimes be tricky to glue onto an embossed surface as it become non-porous. You can use specialist glues for non porous surfaces. I found, that a mixture of your normal crafting glue and book binding glue works very well. I use a mix of 1:1.

To finish off, I unified the two elements by coating them in 2 layers of clear embossing powder and added four brads I had laying around. Et voila! Pretty realistic looking.

Pearlised Custom Patterned Card

Gift box and card featuring pearlised custom patterned card by Neil Burley
I love monochromatic themes - they take away all the stresses of what paper goes with which embellishment, do the colours match, what colours go with what... But then you run across the problem of not all reds are equal - hues and saturations don't match. How about creating your very own monochromatic pearlised custom patterned card stock, so you can be sure your projects keep a consistent colour tone? Read on to find out how you can use WOW! Pearlescent Powders to add your own pearl sheen to your creations.
