Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life - Pablo Picasso

Hi everyone!

My name is Birgit Koopsen, I'm from the Netherlands and I'm a WOW! educator/US WOW! Design Team member.
I am  happy to be guest blogging here today and I would like to show you that WOW! embossing powders are perfect to use in mixed-media projects.
The project I'm sharing with you was created using WOW! embossing powders & stamps, Fab Foil and bonding powder.

The base for this project was a plain piece of wood from the DIY-store, measuring 18.5 x 29.5 x 1.8cm.
I first randomly stamped on the wood using stamp set 11 - French Music.
Then I spray painted the wood with a variety of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist colors.
It's important the whole piece is completely dry before you move on.
I made my own masks punching out circles in 3 sizes from pieces of cardstock and used the negatives.
I created circles on the background filling the masks with Versamark using a piece of blending foam, then sprinkled the circles with bonding powder and heated them. I placed the white foil on top, heated the circle spots lightly again and rubbed the foil in. The firmer you rub and the better you let the bonding powder cool down the better the foil sticks. But I like a distressed look so in some places I took the foil of before it cooled down which made the background shine through.

After that I added dots on and around the white circles using punchanella/sequin waste and Versamark and added pink foil to them the same way as i did with the white circles. Although the white foil didn't stick everywhere the bonding powder is still there so when I added the pink foil some of it stuck to the open spaces in the white circles making it look even more distressed. Love that!

To get the copper brushstrokes of foil I added Versamark to the background with a wide brush, then added bonding powder and copper foil.
To make the little butterflies I used the same technique as with the circles. I punched out the butterfly from a piece of cardstock and used the negative. This time I let the foil cool down completely before removing it getting a perfect butterfly print. I put the mask back on top of the butterflies and stamped on top using the Funky Border Strips - ME Clear Stamp Set.

I used stamp set 1 - Is it a bird? for the trees. Stamped them with Versamark and then embossed them with Primary Ebony regular. Because the stems were to short I used an embossing pen to make them the right height. I also used the Ebony powder to cover the sides of the wood. and for the little hearts at the top.
To get a little more texture I added several colors of Stazon ink using star shape and dotted punchanella.
Finally I stamped the 2 little birds (also from Is it a bird?), drew with a black pen around the white circles and added the quote.

I really hope you like my post and got inspired to use your WOW! products in mixed media projects!

Wishing you a wonderful day!
Happy crafting!

Synchronized swimming in the bath tub

Hello, Doris here. What a exciting time to be in the UK! I took the Olympics as my inspiration for today’s blue red and white post. As I have always been enthralled by synchronized swimming. Where else to start practicing but in your own bathtub!!

This is a journal I often give away as a present and this is No. 76 in my challenge to make 101 journals. Of course it is made of recycled carton. I cut the grid and mirror out on my trusty Silhouette. The bathtub is one of my favourite dies, it always fuels my imagination. The legs I draw by hand and I am getting better :)

Using embossing powders, I managed to get the bathroom feel. But I had to distress it a bit - cleaning is not a priority when one is practicing for the Olympics!

What would your invented Olympic Sport be?

And here are some more I have done in the past:

British Themed Gift...

Hello Wow blog readers...

It's Sarah here and I've been playing with the Wow stamps and embossing powders to create a fabulous British themed project. With all the wonderful celebrations that we had earlier this month, I was invited along to a themed Jubilee party and encouraged to wear Red, White & Blue. I sorted my outfit but wanted something unique to complete the look and that's when I had the idea of creating my own earrings...

Looking at the telephone box from the 'Call Me' Wow Stamp Set, I thought if this was used on Heat Shrink paper, it would become the perfect size for some cool British themed earrings.

British Countryside "Poppies in the Field"

Hi again,

Chris Saunders here with a "British" countryside scene all made from WoW Embossing Powders.

Iv'e used a variety of colours to create this British landscape of "Poppies in the Field"  along with some Free-formed flowers made using melted WoW powders.

To make this card:  Tear a piece of card roughly and place it two thirds of the way up on your card forming a mask. Ink the unmasked section and add Pastel Blue and Pastel Purple powder randomly on the card then heat set.

Ink in sections going further down the card adding colours such as Pastel Yellow,Verdigris, and Pepper as you go heat setting each colour in turn. Go all the way down your card to create a full backgound.
Melt Clear Gloss and Apple Red powder in a melt pot and pour into blobs onto a craft mat. Re-heat each blob a little and add a small dot of Black Twinkle Powder in the centre. Heat set again. When cool, peel these "flower heads" from the craft mat.
Stamp stems using the flourish stamp from the Everyday Sentiments Stamp Set in Green Primary and stick on the flower heads with silicone glue.

Each Landscape you make will turn out to be different so no two cards will ever be the same.  These free-form flowers can be used to decorate any project and you can add variety by using gold glitter or powder for the centres. Pin It Now!

Team G.B.

Hi Everyone

This month with WOW we have been asked to make a card to go with a British theme using the metalines and G.B. colours embossing powders.  My eclectic phase is hanging on with avengence and so ............

Obviously I have thought about red, white and blue and I wanted to incorporate the technique I'd long forgotten until Jo Pritchard(see my blog) resurrected it - alcohol inks and an air duster can with compressed air inside - dropping ink onto A4 glossy card then blasting it with the air can to spread it on the paper.  The results are unique every time.

I then cut it into 5 strips of 1 x 5.5 ins and stamped the WOW vintage wallpaper over the top with black stazon.  I then matted these onto dark blue card and then onto a 6 x 6 in card, alternating the left side and right side to butt up the end of the cardstock.

I then die cut a spellbinder classic scallop oval in white card and also onto a piece of acetate. I sprayed the white card with cosmic shimmers and then took a union jack embossing folder and put versamark on the emboss side then used WOW bright white embossing powder.  I purposely did not use an antistatic bad as I wanted the effect to be a bit grungy.

I then die cut 2 balloons with the alcohol ink covered card and matted them onto silver card.  I then die cut a G and B for Great Britain and put versamark on them followed by WOW red glitz glitter embossing powder.  I placed red wire around the bottom of the balloons and attached these to the mouth of the bird.

The bird stamp came from 100proofpress.com an online rubber stamp company.  I stamped the bird and then cut it out. I then coloured different parts of the bird with a embossing ink pen and sprinkled WOW embossing powders in bright white, apple red, metallic blue, metaline dark blue and lagoon on in different areas then went over the edges with a fine black permanent marker making it look mechanical and used a faux screw brad in its wing then added feathers from my stash which has layed dormant for quite a few years!

The flourish is a maya road pre cut die and I edged this with blue and red distress ink and put glossy accents over the top.

I then die cut a Tim Holtz paper rosette, coloured this in red and blue distress inks and then painted over the top with light blue acrylic paint wiping the paint off in strategic places. I then used one of my bottle tops(see Man Eclectic post) and placed a union jack circle in it covering it with glossy accents and faux ribbons from the click print and go 'Jewel Britannia' cd from My Craft Studio and attached these to the rosette and top right corner of the card.

Putting it all together the card looks like this..........

Hope you have some crafting time to yourself this week.

Call Me

Hi everyone! It's Sandie here and today I would like to share a card I made for this month's theme "Best of British" This typically wouldn't be a colour combo I would use so I was definitely out of my comfort zone but nevertheless I am happy with how it turned out.

I heat embossed the blue script background and trimmed it out, then tied some red/white bakers twine around it. before mounting it on 3D foam. I did the same thing for telephone box. As I had no coordinating red card I simply used my red embossing powder to make some for behind the sentiment. That too is mounted on 3D foam so this card has tons of dimension.

Of course I can never finish a card without adding some pearls just for an extra touch of bling ;)

Calling Britain!

Hi there

Rachel here with my take on this months theme 'British'.

I decided to recycle the back of a note pad and make a message pad that can be hung up by the phone.

Using an embossing folder I inked up the inside, ran it through my die-cutting machine and then embossed in Metalline Blue to make the background.
The telephone box was stamped & embossed in Apple Red onto card and also acetate. I cut out the centre of the phone box and backed it with the acetate to look more realistic.

The tile was stamped and then coated in three layers of Clear Ultra High EP, I edged it in Lagoon and Apple Red for definition.
I finished off by stamping the telephone image onto each of my pages.

The powders I've used are: Metalline Blue
Stamp set used is: Call Me Clear Stamp Set

I hope you like my project this month, please keep stopping by to see all the other lovely projects created by our Design Team.

Simply British

Hi All

It's my turn to provide you with some inspiration for our fab challenge this month. I can't say that I'm the most patriotic of people but even I found myself moved by some of the scenes over the Jubilee weekend.

I decided to keep things simple and show off two of the featured powders by using them to make a flag. I cut a card to size, drew out the flag in pencil and then using an embossing pen started to emboss the sections, beginning with the red and working outwards. Each of the blue sections was done individually and a paint brush was used to get the lines reasonably even. I stamped a sentiment and added to the front. So there you have it quick and simple.

Shopping List

Primary Colours - Lagoon Regular WH02R
Red Glitz Embossing Glitter WS13R
Embossing Pen

I was even inspired to make my calendar journal pages fit the Jubilee theme so do pop over to my blog and see what I came up with.

Another DT member will be along soon with more inspiration so do keep popping back and I hope that you'll play along with us.

A wooden frame for Jubilee time

Hello Everyone!  As it´s Jubilee time everywere and we also do have a Jubilee theme for our challenge I also have a project fitting for this wonderfull occation. As you can see it´s a wooden board for photos.
 I have used:

WOW! Embossing Powders in:
WOW!Fab Folis in:
WOW! Clear Stamp Sets:

I have created the telephone box by using fab foils in red on bonding powder. I just rub gentley over the foil and did not use my iron for getting this little shabby effect.

On the edges of my wooden photoboard I was experimenting a little bit with using embossing powder and foil tougether. The effect is amazing as the powders and foils are melting tougether. It looks like a wave in the sea on a sunny day. :o)
You must try it too but don´t forget to use a sheet of backing paper between the powders/foils and your iron!!!

Have a crafty day! xx Bianca
